Saving Time With a CNC Router

CNC Router

Have you heard of CNC routers, but aren’t quite sure what they can do for your business? If yes, then you’re in the right place. CNC routers can save you hours of work and eliminate the occurrence of any mistakes. That's right. No more measuring and potentially miscutting or drilling. CNC Routers do it all. What is better than custom woods that are cut to perfection? Well, we might be a little biased since we're a team of professional artists and craftsmen- but we must say, using a quality CNC router at our business has been a game-changer. And today, we're going to share what they are, how they work, and some of the benefits they can offer you.

What is a CNC Router?

To put it simply: CNC Routers are computer-programmed machines that cut and drill. They can be programmed to do specific tasks in a fraction of the time it would take to get done by hand. And they do it flawlessly.

Example: Here at Great Big Graphics, we often use our in-house CNC router for cutting out the shapes of clients' custom-made furniture, or to match and recreate custom moldings and medallions.

What Do They Do?

To put it simply: CNC routers are used to cut solid woods, engineered woods, and composites. CNC stands for "Computer Numerical Control", which makes sense as CNC routers use a digital file to program the tool that moves up and down along a predetermined path to cut and customize materials.

Example: At Great Big Graphics, our CNC Router is often used for things like creating custom furniture pieces for clients.

How Do They Work?

So, how does a CNC router work? Here's the gist of it: The router is controlled by a computer that tells the machine the material and design of what needs to be carved or shaped. Once the user has a set idea of what they want to create, they program their design into the computer's software using a CAD file to tell it what they want to be done.

Once programmed, the CNC router will automatically follow the design, cutting all pieces out from the preferred material until completion- completely free from errors. Once all pieces have been cut perfectly, the user is able to assemble them by hand to finish off the custom design and bring the project to life.

"It basically creates this lincoln log setup where you get all the pieces ready to go and you just put them together, while still being custom-built."

- Nichole Loati, Owner, Great Big Graphics

How Can They Help Me?

If you've got an idea for a custom-build project that you need to be done fast and free of errors- you need to work with a professional that has a CNC router. Lucky for you, you’ve found one right here.

A CNC router can create complicated designs that would be difficult or time-consuming for hand-held tools.
